1B: New Age - What Do I Mean?

new age:
a general umbrella term for a group of popular contemporary spiritual beliefs or ideas.
originates in the astrological concept popularized in the 1960's that we
are entering the age of aquarius - a "new age" characterized by various
events and transformations in human consciousness and the universe's
evolution...the new age movement gatherd steam around the supposed
"harmonic convergence" of 1987. the convergence was supposed to signal
the end of a hellish era and the beginning of an era of light - a new

new age beliefs systems have a particular flavor and can generally be
reduced to a few key foundational concepts that are central to whatever
variations may arise, and it should be added - that are anything but "new".
these are as follows:
New Age Beliefs
ancient cultures had access to a wisdom about the nature of the universe
and the true meaning of life that has since been lost to us and is
rediscoverable through astrology, sacred geometry, kabbala and various
literalized mythic beliefs and magical practices.
inherent to this wisdom might be the doctrine of past lives, soul mates, and each persons true destiny - all of this is part of a master plan enacted by the universe and/or co-created through conscious intent and open-ness to the signs that are always present in the form of "synchronistic" events.
these premises often then translate into the idea that everything
happens for a "reason" and is the universe's way of teaching us a lesson
so as to help us graduate to the next level of our reincarnation. this
often includes the notion that there truly are no vicitims. people
choose their parents, their traumas, their life experience beforehand
in order to learn the lessons they need. all predators and prey are in a
mutually created karmic learning experience....
this belief is related to the idea that all reality is created by
thought. that learning how to master one's thoughts will make one a
master of physical reality. conversely those who are at the mercy of
their out-of-control negative thought forms suffer the consequences -
again there are no real victims.
this above is not seen as being cold hearted - as all suffering is
illusory anyway and can be transcended in a split second through a
simple shift in perspective...
now, there are enlightened ones, psychics, astrologers, or channels who
have access to this "information" and who can through looking at you or
thinking about you or reading your chart or channeling a being from
another time or dimension, tell you the secret meaning of your destiny,
soul journey, or what have you...
it's all relative and there no absolute truths. reality is ultimately what you, at the deepest level, believe it to be. even the laws of physics are an illusion that can be transcended through the power of consciousness.
thus everything comes down to choice and intention.
in addition we live in auspicious astrological times - some say the
earth is reversing it's spin, some that the planets are alligning
differently, or that we are being bombarded by cosmic energy from some
hiden intelligence, in any case this is the time when human beings rapidly evolve to the next level of thought mastery and reclaim the ancient wisdom that allows us to finally know our true place in the universe, end all suffering, and live in complete equanimity, wealth, and enlightened bliss...
of course all of this has been proven by quantum physics and the
unsurprisingly similar universal truths uttered by enlightened sages
throughout the ages.....
the new paradigm is upon us. the new age is dawning. nothing will ever
be the same. it's all about light, pure light and love.
critical thinking and judgements block our access to pure light and love
and are better left alone altogether. all perspectives are equally valid
and true from their vantage point.
none of the above are criticisms (though there is much to criticize).
